My very best friend in the world got engaged recently-which is awesome! There’s nothing better than LOVE!  The news has me getting into the wedding vibe pretty hard. I’m pinning all kinds of dresses, flowers, decor, etc. and there’s just SO MUCH to pin.

It can be overwhelming to actually begin to see what getting married “requires.” Aside from just the WEDDING ITSELF, there’s parties and showers galore. It’s easy to see why more and more couples are opting out of big, traditional weddings these days.

For instance, a friend of mine got engaged last year and was so stressed about planning the Big Day over the course of many months, she finally just said ENOUGH! They went to the courthouse one Saturday and met some friends out for drinks afterward. It was sweet, stress-free and she doesn’t regret a thing. Now they’re using the money that was supposed to go to their wedding on a HONEYMOON in MOROCCO!

I also went to a casual, weekend BBQ once, where the hosts surprised us all after dinner with a WEDDING! They got married right then and there, in their own backyard. And you know what? It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed:) One minute, I’m eating a hot dog and having a Coors Light and the next, I’m watching two friends make a lifelong commitment to each other, free of frills.

I’m not saying it’s for everyone at all. Some girls dream of their wedding day their whole lives and want the big deal, complete with all the bells & whistles. I find I’m somewhere in the middle. I could have a nice, big wedding here in Phoenix, with lots of friends and family or just as easily elope, but only if we found ourselves in a romantic foreign town-you know what I mean? Which is why I won’t be getting engaged for a long while;) Whatever we do, it’ll be worth the wait.

But back to my whole point. My best friend is getting married and I have full blown wedding fever now! I am planning a gift for her that incorporates an upcoming trip we are taking to Chicago, but obviously I HAD to bring something to the party! And it turned out so cute, I wanted to share it with you.

Here’s a fun engagement gift idea that combines many of my favorite things: Goodwill treasures, DIY, glitter and champagne:)

Of course it’s super easy to buy a nice bottle of bubbly and present it as an engagement gift by itself. That’s perfectly fine. But let me show you how to take it to the next level without breaking the bank.

I started by picking out a nice bottle of “stars” -as Dom Perignon referred to champagne. No it was NOT Dom that I bought. Geez I wish! But I did find a nice, mid-price bottle that had a gold label. Then, I headed to the local craft store to snag up some gold glitter. I already had Modge Podge on hand, from my Coffee Bar DIY. I also had some black and white striped ribbon, as well as black tissue paper. Use what you have, people!

Then I headed to my favorite Goodwill to treasure hunt for some glasses.

It would’ve been super easy to find some nice, classy champagne flutes at a retail store, but that’s no fun! And probably really expensive! Instead, I found some really great glasses with tons of character. They are so much more unique than the plain jane flutes you see everywhere. Plus, my bestie is thinking of doing a boho wedding with lots of unique, crystal pieces much like these. So it’s a nice addition to her already growing collection.

I scored each glass for only $1.49! And I found a black wicker basket for a whopping 99 cents, so OBVIOUSLY I bought it!

At home, I cleaned the glasses til they shined, modge-podged up the champagne bottle, sprinkled it with glitter, made a homemade card and I was done. Boom. OH! I picked up a copy of Bride & Groom magazine and threw that in as well. So all in all, for less than $10 extra on the cost of the champagne, I had a fun, festive, one-of-a-kind engagement gifts that got all kinds of compliments:) SUCCESS!

I did take advantage of being a designer and made some custom stickers for the party, one of which I put on the bottle. I misjudged the size of the champagne, though and the label started to pucker. But other than that, it turned out great and with some Avery labels, you could whip up some of your own and print them at home for any occasion.

For the skeptics out there, who think I got lucky finding glasses at Goodwill, I want to show off some of the other amazing ones I’ve found thrifting over the past few months.

First up, these great little tumblers that commemorate the wedding of the PRINCE & PRINCESS OF WALES! C’mon! They are so fun and so unique! You can’t find these at any department store thats for sure:)

Next up-these great wine glasses with astrological illustrations in GOLD! Duh. These were a great find. I was really happy that day haha! On a side note, I also scored that wooden tray at GW:) See? Full of treasures!

I grabbed this pair on a Dollar Day. They are a bit more traditional than I’m usually drawn to, but you never know when I’ll need them for another gift basket. Thinking ahead!

Similar to the astrological ones, I found these lil guys, with Gold Greek coins all over them! WHAT?! So fun!

And lastly, some of my favorites. These cocktail glasses with gold starburst on them! Such mid-century glamour! Again, I got these for less than $5 for the pair!

So there you have it. I now have a bar stocked full of one-of-a-kind pieces. And these are just a sample of what I have! There’s so many treasures out there just waiting for you to find them. Cheers to that!
